In the first 2 games, we are given subtle hints about the animatronics having a dual function as security guards (kind of, memories a bit foggy on that far back) so it would make sense for them to want to protect a child, Gregory, from the antagonist. My final evidence for this is that the logo for the game looks like a sort of neon security That is, until they all suddenly snap together within the span of a few seconds. That one moment, at the climax of FNaF 3, is absolutely genius.
